Kohleberg Kunstwerk is an audiovisual project by Neven M. Agalma, dedicated to reinterpreting the mining and industrial heritage of the Zasavje region through sound, archival material, video, and performance.
The project was originally conceived in 2022 to mark the 200th anniversary of mining in Hrastnik. The first presentation, Kohleberg Kunstwerk 200.22, was situated in the former
mining-industrial building Mašinhaus, where the historical site simultaneously became the setting, sound source, and material for the artistic intervention.
In its current version, Kohleberg Kunstwerk 200.26, the project continues as an exploration of the relationship between industrial memory, architecture, sound, and space. The remnants of mining culture are not treated merely as historical artefacts, but as material that can be reactivated through contemporary artistic practice and given new meaning.
Archival recordings, images of the mining environment, and an original sound composition create a passage between documentation and abstraction, between collective memory and its contemporary reinterpretation.
The live component of the project moves between ambient, industrial, noise, sonic deconstruction, and industrial ritual — ranging from slowly evolving sonic layers to intense, physically immersive sound structures.
Industrial heritage as a space of memory. Sound as its reactivation.
