Adam Donovan & Katrin Hochschuh: Psychophysics Machines and Swarms
Published on May 29th, 2017You are kindly invited to the third inhabitation of the cybernetic Garden of Eden – Robotanika | Genesis! Inhabitants are Adam Donovan and Katrin Hochschuh -> on tuesday, 30th May at 21.00 in Cirkulaciji 2, Tobačna Ljubljana.
Adam Donovan is one of the most propulsive artists in making use of the inovative physics methods in art. His main area of research is directive sound and acoustic lenses. Extremely well-known are his ultra agile robots with ultrasonic sound systems, which he will also use on this occasion.
First time together with Katrin Hochschuh and her system of interactive/ generative real-time visualisations – based on the principles of “swarm”.
Ultrasonic principle of attaching the sound modulation to a frequency well beyond the human hearing limits, aloows for a very directive sound – so-called sound laser. This directed line of moving air can reaczh extreme distances – couple of 100 meters or even few kilometers! With his ultra agile ultrasonic robot Donovan has also been testing the limits of human direction hearing capabilities.
Before that and after: from 20.00 onwards – exhibition/ situation Robotanika Genesis with all its cybernetic creatures – soft and hard…
Adam Donovan, Australian artist, currently in Switzerland, until recently in Vienna/ Austria. Self-declared as hybrid arts artist – pinned between art, science and technology. His work is in the areas of non-linear acoustics/ sound, robotic sculptures, VR interactive space („game engine“) and sensing the space with camera. Donovan’s work combines the very specialized field of acoustic science with visual arts.
From 1996 his field of research is directive sound and acoustic lenses with which he created some interactive installations. Participation with scientists is necessary, giving him the knowledge to develop his prototypes. In the field of interdisciplinary arts Donovan is using some of the most innovative physics methods.
Works: 2015: Saturn 3 (WRO Media Art Biennial, Wrocław Poljska), 2015: Psychophysics Machines (Den Haag, Nizozemska), 2014: Hot particle, Always Forever Now, timelessness and the currency of new media (das weisse haus, Dunaj Avstrija), 2013: Parabolic Swimming (Swiss Mechatronic Art Society, Wildhause Švica), 2013: Curious Tautophone (Poolloop Festival, Zurich Švica).
