Postavitev je povsem umerjena za novi prostor Cirkulacije 2 v podhodu Ajdovščina (-> Podhod Ajdovščina 2). Hkrati je to prvi večji umetniški projekt v novem prostoru v letošnjem čudnem letu.
Elegija je žalostinka za skupino skulptur, umetniških video del in zvočno instalacijo – narejeno posebej za prostor Cirkulacija 2 / podhod Ajdovščina.

Francisco Tomsich sem za izhodišče tega sodelovanja s Cirkulacijo 2 izbral obsežnejšo serijo kratkih meditativnih monokromatskih eksperimentalnih filmov krožnega formata temelječih na obdelavi njegovih video-dnevnikov in namenjenih prikazu v formatu večjih video instalacij.
Dela iz serije Silent Works (Nema dela) se pogosto razvijejo na podlagi zelo enostavne, zelo redke ali zelo pretresljive najdbe (tedaj imajo močan dokumentarni karakter). Druga dela so kompleksni, večplastni kolaži s pripovedno noto. Tretja so vizualni eseji, ki temeljijo na montaži in rezih in lahko vključujejo kratka besedila iz različnih virov in namenov. Razvrstim jih v skupine z naslovi “Meditacije”, “Eseji” ali “Tihožitja”.
Elegija bo uvrstila izbor novejših Silent Works (Nemih del), ki jih druži melanholični, žalosten ali žaloben karakter. Osnovni posnetki, ki so botrovali končnim delom, so bili posneti v Sarajevu (Bosna in Hercegovina), v Montevideu (Urugvaj) in po različnih mestih na Hrvaškem, v Srbiji in Sloveniji med leti 2014 in 2020.
V medsebojnem dialogu skušajo dela ustvariti vizualno povezavo med kraji in dogodki, ki se po izvoru razlikujejo, vendar hkrati nakazujejo nekatere vsebine in razloge, ki se jih dotikajo in jih ponavljajo: dialektika človekovega in narave, podobe ekscentričnega, performativnost vsakodnevnega: navade in situacije, smrt, zgodovina kot ponavljanje…
Upam, da bom uspel na ta način ustvariti repertoar gibljivih podob, ki bodo delovale kot simptom in alegorija širših družbenih bolezni, modeli upora in spomeniki minulega časa/ minulemu času.
Video dela bodo v prostoru sobivala s posebej za prostor zgrajenimi instalacijami/ skulpturami, ki bodo imela podoben učinek, saj bodo poudarjala vidike video del in prek uporabljenih materialov in velikosti dodajale lastne zgodbe.
Silent Works (Nema dela) so, seveda, nema. Vendar v sodelovanju z Borutom Savskim in Cirkulacijo 2 dodamo prostorsko potopitveno dimenzijo sprotnega/ “živega” in dodatno naključnega generiranja računalniškega zvoka, ki nastaja na podlagi vizualnih informacij – in se nikoli popolnoma ne ponovi. Skušali bomo ustvariti prostorskost/ ambientalnost, kjer se lahko gledalec osredotoči na preproste in jasne slikovne detajle, hkrati pa ostaja vmeščen v širšem in bolj kompleksnem kontekstu, v katerem se lahko tudi izgubi (= najde) – in s tem potrdi/ ali zanika elegični karakter razstave in njenih aspiracij kritike, realizma in pretresljivosti zabeleženega.

Francisco Tomsich je vizualni umetnik in pisec rojen v Urugvaju leta 1981. Od leta 2003 deluje na področju razstav, publikacij, odrskih del, modelov raziskav in pedagoških vzvodov – v različnih medijih, jezikih in govoricah.

The installation setup is totally site-specific – for the new space of Cirkulacija 2 in Ajdovščina subway (-> Podhod Ajdovščina 2). Also, this is the first large project in the new space – and in this strange times.
Elegija (Elegy) is a mournful song performed by ensemble of video installations, sculptures and sound installation – made specifically for Cirkulacija 2’s premises.

The starting point of this collaboration between Cirkulacija 2 and Francisco Tomsich is an extensive series of short, meditative, monochromatic, circular experimental films based on the manipulation of the authors’ video diaries and aimed to be shown as large-format video installations.
The works from the Silent Works series may be developed from a very simple, though rare or disturbing find (then having a strong documentary character). Other pieces are complex, multilayered collages with a narrative character. Some others are visual essays based on montage and editing and may include texts of various kinds and purposes. I put them into groups named “Meditations”, “Essays” or “Natures mortes”.
Elegija will introduce a selection of recent Silent Works which share a melancholic, sad and mournful character. The original footage upon the final pieces are built was made in Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Montevideo (Uruguay) and various cities and locations of Croatia, Serbia and Slovenia between 2014 and 2020.
The dialogue between them pretends to create a visual connection between landscapes and events which are different in character and origin but point out at the same time to certain specific issues and themes they elaborate and repeat: the dialectics of the human-made and nature, the figure of the eccentric, the performativity of daily habits and situations, death, history as repetition…
I hope to create with them a repertory of moving representations which would function as symptoms and allegories of wider social diseases, models of resistance and monuments of/to time gone.
These video pieces will dialogue with a site-specific installation of objects and sculptures sharing the same character, as it is evident in the references they make and the stories they talk about through their material and scale.
The Silent Works are, of course, silent. However, this collaboration with Borut Savski and Cirkulacija 2 implies the production of an immersive sound installation based on the manipulation of the videos’ data as live-produced/ real-time randomized sound event generation that never really repeats itself. We hope to create that way an ambiance where the spectator can focus on simple and concrete visual and loud things while being at the same time part of a bigger and more complex environment where one can lost him or herself and then confirm, or deny, the elegiac character of the exhibition, and its critical, realist and soul-stirring aspirations.
