Elvin Brandhi – DUMB SUPPER
As part of the pagan festival of the dead a Dumb Supper was usually conducted by communities, a kind of informal seance where the dead are kindly welcomed back to exchange wisdoms between the existentially segregated realms of being. We metaphorically conduct a group exorcism through a series of performances that attempt to confront individual heritage – on the peak of these days where the boundaries between the living and the dead are the weakest. In the tradition of Dumb Supper we welcome the dead, to update us on current affairs, and they may warn us of what is to come if we don’t take action.
‘There is strength in cold as well as heat, death as well as life’
Each citizen is asked to dig into the fabric of their subject, call upon the ghosts of their personal and collective heritage, the contemporary ghosts of corporate ideology, of nation, ghosts of kin, and future ghosts – to join us in this Supper of aesthetic consumption. What possessed you? Consumption? Individual success? Wealth? Time? Exorcise Europe- Confront heritage.
Only through this direct conversation with the dead can we grasp what it means to be alive.
