Blind Pilots Calculation
by
Simon Svetlik (Slo)
Erik Schou (Uru)
Many animals find their way, migrating from one part of the planet to another with great precision, making ponder about our necessity of maps and different instruments to navigate. Blind Pilots are roaming the skies trusting that they still could find a primal animal sense of orientation to head accurately to the right place. Nevertheless we cannot ignore the rational perspective we are inculcated into and the coded functioning of our devices, to calculate trajectories with more precision.
Even in the blindness of the night pilots find reassurance in the stars as raised dots that make up braille constellations, telling them that humanity is not totally lost.
Blind Pilots Calculation is improvised multimedia session combining the work of two transmedia artists searching for a new point of arrival for their experimentations. The use of minimal technical set ups avoid postmodern baroque technological fetishism. Limited quantity of technical possibilities determine a clear territory of departure from where to begin the exploration.
Simon Svetlik was born and is creating in Ljubljana. His art is not limited by medium, topic or style formation. He is mainly creating in the field of universal that supposes equality of intelligence. Being the collective symptom, he asks questions for the rest of humanity. His broad field of interest led him to experiment with range of art media; his exploration of interconnectedness of visual with other art forms and free choice of thematics results in his diverse work, which is hard to describe using common denominators. He created variety of art works and collaborated in collective creations. His creative techniques include also use of digital tools, especially with his live video manipulation art. in 2001 he cofounded Art group RGB (collective art experimentation “laboratorium”); he also cofounded art platform “Meta city symptoms” in 2015. Lately he has been working with Ryuzo Fukuhara and Borut Kržišnik in audio-video-dance Project “O” that is still developing.
Erik Schou is an artist born in Montevideo, Uruguay. He investigates with performance, installations, sound and other media in site-specific works. He is part of the art collective “Hungry Artist Foundation”, which works problematising the relation of the artists and the art institutions and taking possession of conceptual wastelands as the proper territories for generating artistic knowledge. As sound artist he has been performing with the Uruguayan band “Animales Electrodomésticos” and more recently he has been presenting different experimental music projects along Europe, using minimal analog set ups.
